Visualizing Information Space: The New York Times
Graduate Studio I, Dan Boyarski
We visualized the content, structure and style of a given information artifact in a time-based piece. I analyzed the Sunday Edition of the New York Times, looking initially at sections, geographic coverage, moving to stylistic features such as typography, grid layout, illustration and photography.
The final piece demonstrates the New York Time’s unique use of typography to create a window onto the world for its readers, and visualizes the quantitive make-up of the artifact by comparing the space occupied by writing, photography, advertising and illustration.
