Mobile Application for Tourists: Cosmos
Interaction and Visual Interface Design,

Jon Zimmerman

The goal of this project was to design a mobile application that provided useful information, could be easily navigated and solve the various needs of a target user traveller. Personas were developed from field research, and scenarios were created to demonstrate the final product in use.

We utilized research methods such as directed storytelling and interviews with families, students and individuals at various area tourist spots to arrive at our final personas and scenarios which drove the design. We tested paper prototypes through think-aloud usability testing to refine our interface.

The final concept is a mobile application that allows a traveler to leave messages in space that can be retrieved and shared among friends and communities. It also allows organizations and interest groups to “layer” information on the map of your location, allowing you to “switch” on/off various types of spatial notes as you explore the location. We envisioned such a system to integrate easily with current social networks like Facebook and MySpace to “mark” spaces for friends and family.
